Down Boy

I drew this comic not with my good old brush pen, but tried the Staedtler pigment liner 0.5 for a change. I did a couple of sketches and liked the look of it so much, that I felt like trying to make the comic with it. I do like how it turned out, but I kinda miss the line variation the brush pen gave me. I did enjoy the drawing process more. It felt more like drawing instead of tracing and trying to make the brush pen do what I wanted to. Felt less like working, more like having fun - I guess. About the comic. The last comic kinda split the audience in two groups. One group saw the Matrix and remembered it detailed enough to get the joke and the other group of people did see the Matrix, but forgot about spoons or didn't ever watched the Matrix (shame on you!). But to understand todays comic, you really have to have seen the Matrix again. So to help you guys a little to remember, I've attached the scene what might explain the comic above a little more. But guess the whole posture of Mojo in the second frame should ring enough bells already ^^

  1. Ha! Going all Air Jordan.

    1. Hahaha. I guess Michael Jordan would have killed for having these powers at his disposal ^^

  2. I still ink my comics with a medium nib marker. I need to practice more with a brush, I haven’t gotten up the nerve to do it yet 🙂 Love this comic, Skar, very funny!!

    1. When I see professional cartoonists ink with a brush, it looks so simple. I tried it a couple of times, but couldn’t make it feel like drawing – felt more like I was tracing my pencil lines :S

  3. This is probably one of my favorite movie scenes of all time!
I still ink with a brush and ink… and it’s always a challenge. I was going back and forth between dip pens and microns for awhile, but I like the control I get on the line weight with a brush!

    1. It’s also one of my favorite movie scenes, that’s why I wanted to use it 🙂
And I’ve been switching my inking methods a lot in the last 2 years. I tried brush, microns, dip pen, brush pen and more. And every time I like another tool again and use that for a while. Lately I’ve been using the brush pen for a while and now I’m back to a pen again 🙂

  4. This time the joke was funny for someone who never saw the Matrix even without the video, but the addition of the video gave a deeper understanding. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Jande for sharing. Especially since you haven’t seen the movie (yet) ^^

  5. It’s just lag.

    1. Maybe the ‘hackers’ (Trinity, Morpheus, Neo etc) found a way to make use of lag to do all the stuff they do 😉

  6. Mojo has a handy carrying handle, too!

    1. LOL. Poor guy… I always learned not to pull a cats tail ^^

  7. Hah. I love this one.

    1. Thanks mate. Even a simple ‘I love this one’ makes me feel all warm and tingly inside 🙂

  8. HA…nice. He appears to be filled with hot air.

    1. Well… Mojo can be a little arrogant sometimes ;P

  9. There’s so much awesome in the last panel. Really cracks me up.

    1. First I had Merv having Mojo on a leash… but it eventually became him dragging him by his tail 🙂
