Guidance

This comic really took me a long time to create. I had absolutely no idea what to make. I have a couple notebooks full with ideas, but I just had no click with any of them. I just couldn't find a way to make it work. I clearly had a writers block. But luckily I can always count on my comic colleagues. Dawn (of Zorphbert and Fred) send me a link to an article she wrote about how to overcome a writers block. The article was very useful (so thanks Dawn!) and made me start to write down words after words after words. And eventually - after another 1 or 2 hours thinking, staring and sweating - I got this idea. And I'm pretty happy  with it. It doesn't even look like it was made while under pressure, if I might say so. What do you think? Update: after I woke up this morning and looked at the comic, I noticed that while tweaking the texts last night, I totally tweaked it the wrong way. I removed all texts from the original idea and the whole intention was gone. So now I needed to tweak it a little and change it after I posted it. Which I rarely do, since I just don't think it's good to tweak the comic after it's posted... if I would do that, I could keep on tweaking EVERY comic I ever created. So that's why I decided for myself to not tweak/change a comic in any way after it's posted. I only sometimes change the text to correct spelling mistakes. So this update is pretty unusual, but I thought is was necessary.

  1. Time to get out and walk.

    Good comic!

    1. Don’t think Ben will wait much longer, I wouldn’t 🙂
      Glad you like it.

  2. I like the “poot, poot, poot” in the second panel. 🙂

    1. Actually it’s ‘doot doot doot’ – at least… that was my impression what sound it would make if you punched something in on a touch screen.

      1. Oh, hah. I thought it was the car’s sound since I also read it as poot and imagined it to be the sound a puny engine makes.

I snickered at Mojo looking down at the pedals. 😀

Good job getting over the writer’s block, and I hope the smoking arc won’t be left hanging for too long.

        1. Hahaha. That’s also a way to read it. I see how you read it 🙂
I don’t know if I will be revisiting the smoking-arc soon, for me the guys where now done with smoking and I need to get forward with the comic 🙂

  3. i like the joke! It made me laugh. Sorry you got all blocked up writing it. That happens to me sometimes. I hate it.

    1. Well… after HOURS of thinking, I’m rather surprised I got this as my end result. Really love the joke myself too. And having that writersblock is the most frustrating part of creation. Really annoying!

  4. It is very satisfying to come up with that good idea after struggling with the writers block, though!

    1. It feels awesome! And this comic being the result is really wonderful.

  5. clutch? what’s a clutch? :0P
also, even if my electronics don’t make sounds, I’ll gladly make the “doot doot” sound effect FOR them. In fact, I’ll say “doot” to myself as I click “post comment”

P.S. glad the Alliance and myself could be of help!! I love all those little writer’s block tricks like I laid out in the article :0)

    1. Hahaha… I often make sound effects. I don’t even notice making them. Other people do though 😛
And the article on the Webcomic Alliance really helped me. It gave me some other options to get that writers block out of the way 🙂

  6. This is going to be a very interesting drive!
